Hanoi to relocate four-decade-old murals

The murals depict an old-time Hanoi after the bloody war.

Hanoi city is planning to relocate two murals in Hai Ba Trung district, which have aged 40 years, in their entirety in a land clearing project, aiming to preserve a part of Hanoi’s memories, Vietnam News Agency reported.

The two mural artworks, which were created in the 1980s, are the rare remnants of Hanoi's past preserved entirely until modern days.

The mural artworks were executed by artist Truong Sinh, each with a different technique including ceramic mosaic tiling and embossment.

The murals depict an old-time Hanoi after the war, marking a new landmark of the urban landscape during the first phase of socialist construction. The murals must be removed for the Ring road 2 construction.

The city’s authorities are planning to relocate these murals to other places.

Another mural is embossed with stucco, in the same style of the Soviet propaganda art, featuring the image of a post-war Hanoi, showing the alliance bloc of Farmer, Worker, and Intelligentsia.

The huge murals have been praised by the art critics for their historical values as they could help the young generations understand more about the old days of Hanoi.

The works are the urban precious heritages, engraved in the memories of many Hanoians.
