Hanoi welcomes 5.7 million foreign visitors in 2018
The promotion of Hanoi as a destination in CNN, is said to contribute to the good performance of Hanoi tourism sector.
An estimated 5.74 million foreigners arrive in Hanoi this year, marking a rise of 16% from the same period last year, thanks to the city's attractiveness and local government's efforts, said Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Tourism Nguyen Anh Dung at a press meeting on December 11.
The total number of both foreign and domestic visitors to Hanoi in 2018 is estimated at 26 million, a 9.3% increase from last year.
In addition, tourism is calculated to earn for Hanoi more than VND75.8 trillion (US$3.26 billion) throughout the year, an year on year increase of 11.7%.
In 2018, Hanoi has been promoted in several rankings. The capital city has been ranked 12th among the world’s 25 best destinations in 2018 and has been nominated for the 2018 leading city destinations in the world by the 2018 World Travel Awards.
In addition, Nguyen Anh Dung said that the promotion of the capital’s destinations in CNN and a smart tourism systems also contributed to the good performance of the tourism sector.
Hanoi’s expansion of cooperation programs with other localities nationwide and with organizations it holds membership in, like the Council for Promoting Tourism in Asia (CPTA) and the Tourism Promotion Organisation for Asia-Pacific Cities (TPO), has also spurred the arrivals of travelers.
In 2019, Hanoi is expect to welcome 28.58 million holidaymakers, a 9.8% increase from 2018. Of the total visitors, 6.66 million will be foreigner, a 16% increase. In addition, Hanoi is expected to earn a revenue of VND84.78 trillion (US$ 3.64 billion) from travel services, a 11.8% increase from 2018’s figure.
