Hanoi to supply more clean water to rural areas
The Hanoi People’s Committee has recently issued Report No.13 dated January 11, indicating result of Program for Results-based (PforR) Rural Water Supply and Sanitation in eight provinces of the Red River Delta.
The program has been funded by the World Bank. Accordingly, the first component focuses on improving water supply condition.
In 2017, 20,624 connection points were set up, including 3,439 points funded by the WB. It stands on 121.3% of annual plan.
There are 72,340 beneficiaries from the sustainable water supply works, fulfilling 120.6% of annual plan.
Regarding the second component on improving sanitation condition, 5,865 sanitary latrines are built, meeting 125.6% of the plan.
There are 30,132 beneficiaries of program on sanitary communes, fulfilling the plan. Three sanitary communes have sanitary schools and clinics.
Regarding the component on technical support, improving communications capacity and supervising, assessing implementation of the program, the participating units in cooperation with People’s Committees of districts organize events to raise people’s awareness of the program.
Through the events, people understand more about benefits of using clean water and rural sanitation.
The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development directs Management Board of the program for Results-based (PforR) Rural Water Supply and Sanitation in coordination with Hanoimoi Newspaper, Hanoi Radio and Television to develop program, increase popularization of clean water, conduct survey and check water connection points.
The Department of Education and Training organizes training session in schools in Dong Anh, Dan Phuong and Thanh Tri districts, and cooperates with schools to collect water sample for test according to regulations.
The Department of Health organizes training classes for officers of city, communes and wards, focusing on professional skills to conduct activities in the framework of the program.
It also organizes training classes for health workers and officers of hamlets, and encourages people to build sanitary latrine, and conduct spontaneous supervision in communes.
