Hanoi to strengthen food safety inspections
On April 13, the delegation of the Health Ministry led by the Deputy Minister Nguyen Thanh Long had a working session with Hanoi People`s Committee on piloting the food safety inspection in 5 districts and 10 communes in the city.
At the meeting, Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long said that Hanoi should focus on inspecting and checking the hotspots of food safety in the locality such as the Long Bien market, Nga Tu So market and Phung Khoang market.
During the meeting, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Van Suu noted that all districts and communes in the city should implement more aggressive the food safety management and inspection.
Vice Chairman Suu said that in particular, in the Food Safety Action Month taking place in all provinces and cities nationwide from April 15, Hanoi has formed six inspection teams to tour 30 districts and towns to check food hygiene and safety, especially with regard to the cultivation and trading of vegetables and meat products.
During the month, the city will strengthen supervision and inspection with the aim to find and punish groups and individuals violating food safety regulations.
The annual month aims to promote the production, trading and consumption of safe vegetable and meat products and handle violations relating to the use and trading of banned substances in breeding and farming.
According to Deputy Director of Hanoi Health Department Hoang Duc Hanh, it is necessary to improve the management of food materials from safe cultivation and production to product processing and distribution in the market.
Information about safe food products and manufacturers will be popularised through mass media to ensure that people avoid buying unsafe foods.
Communication campaigns will also be promoted to enhance the community’s awareness on food production, trading and consumption.
