Hanoi to sterilize 3,000 schools amid concerns of coronavirus outbreak

Schools in Hanoi are taking measures to curb the spread of the new coronavirus.

During two days of the weekend, Hanoi’s authorities conduct sterilization at as many as 3,000 schools across the capital city in a move to prevent the Wuhan coronavirus, Zing News reported.

 

Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung asked the Department of Education and Training to take action against coronavirus by sanitizing all schools on Saturday and Sunday.

 

At Nguyen Sieu school in Cau Giay district, all desks, chairs, and utensils were disinfected on February 1. According to Nguyen Kieu Oanh, deputy director of the Department of Health’s Centers for Disease Control, outdoor spaces, playgrounds, classrooms, staircases, corridors, refectories, multi-purposes houses, bathrooms, toys, learning materials, and personal items all are disinfected.

The sterilization is slated to take place at Marie Curie Hanoi School, Nam Tu Liem district this afternoon, February 2 with floors, kitchens, toilets to be disinfected while desks, chairs, door locks, staircase handrails will be sprayed disinfecting solution. Students’ toys will be soaked in the solution for 30 minutes and then cleaned.


 

Students are warned to cover their mouths with tissues when coughing then throw them away in covered garbage containers, otherwise they should cover their mouths with elbow when coughing. 


 

The school ordered an additional 400 liters of dry hand sanitizer for students, teachers, and staff.


 

Mau Luong Primary School in Ha Dong District also disinfects its campuses by both solution and soapberry burning on January 31.

The Health Office of Ba Dinh district has created an anti-epidemic board and assigned specific tasks to every ward and school, to join in the anti-epidemic campaign. By the end of February 2, all 78 public and non-public schools and 88 independent nurseries will complete sanitization missions.


 Newton Grammar School in Hanoi even allows students to take school break between February 3 -9 and study online under the guidance of teachers while Doan Thi Diem High School in Bac Tu Liem district announced students should be checked body temperature right before entering school buses and school gates. Students who are found with a high temperature above 37 degrees will be quarantined and sent home.
