Hanoi to spend over 2,000 billion VND to solve traffic jam
Hanoi People`s Council adopted a resolution on the plan aiming to minimize the traffic jam in the 2016-2020 period with the total estimated budget at over 2,167 billion VND at the 14th session of the municipal council on December 1.
According to the report of the council, after more than three years of implementing targeted programmes to minimize the traffic congestion from 2012-2015, the situation of traffic congestion in the city has been significantly improved, decreasing from 89 congestion areas down to 51 points. In the period, the number of traffic accidents dropped in all 3 criteria (number of cases, deaths and injuries) and many intersections having severe congestion have been solved fundamentally.
In the recent years, the number of personal transports has rapidly increased, but the investment in transport infrastructure projects has had some limitations.
It is forecasted that the traffic jam in the city will be complicated and many traffic jam areas and routes can occur in the coming time.
So, Hanoi determined to continue implementing the programme to reduce congestion and ensure traffic safety in the city during 2016-2020 period.
Under the plan, the capital targets to reduce minimumly to 40 traffic jam areas and solve definitively its situation of traffic jam.
Hanoi aims to reduce from 5-15% yearly in the number of traffic accidents on all three criteria (number of cases, deaths and injuries),
The city will set up the scheme to gradually restrict the use of private vehicles, define the roadmaps and solutions to address the rapid growth of private transport vehicles.
In the 2016-2020 period, Hanoi will also continue to implement investing in projects of transportation construction which help minimize the traffic congestion.
Besides, the Hanoi People's Committee targets to accelerate the implementation of moving the production facilities, schools, hospitals outside the city center.
The estimated total cost of the programme is over 2,167 billion VND.
