Hanoi to provide 29 billion VND additional funding for prevention of MERS-CoV

Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien met with the Hanoi People`s Committee to discuss about measures of preventing the transmission risk of the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) in the capital on June 18.
Hanoi has been deploying precautionary measures to ward off transmission risk of the MERS-CoV in all 30 districts and communes in the area.
In addition, the city has devised plans to deal with any outbreak emergency alongside proper clinical approaches to those infected at different stages of the disease. 
Some mobile medical teams have been provided with additional training at local districts and communes. 
The preventive health system has also been strengthened to actively ensure adequate facilities for the disease treatment.
To cope up with the epidemic, Hanoi directed the municipal Department of Finance to consider grant a 29 billion VND additional funding for the MERS-CoV epidemic prevention, of which, 10 billion VND is spent to buy specialized equipments.
The city asked all departments to closely coordinate with the municipal Health Department in the prevention of the disease as directed by the Ministry of Health.
Accordingly, the Aviation Port Authority is required to cooperate closely with the Center for International Health Quarantine, enabling the supervision at Noi Bai International Airport for the early detection of passengers with MERS-CoV symptoms to isolate promptly those suspected to infect the MERS-CoV.

At the meeting, Director of Hanoi Department of Health Nguyen Khac Hien said, the department will step up the propaganda and preventive measures of the epidemic, closely supervising people who return from the infected area. He confirmed that the department booking hotline to receive information and provide assistance of the disease in three languages: English, Korean and Vietnam will work all day.
Addressing the meeting, Minister Tien spoke highly of the capital’s active efforts against the early spread of MERS-CoV and urged the city to learn from the best practices of other countries for an effective and cost-efficient epidemic control solution. 
The Minister pledged additional support to help train medical staff at the grassroots levels.
