Hanoi to proactively prevent natural disasters in 2018
The Hanoi Party Committee’s Commission of Propaganda and Education has recently organized a press conference to provide information about the Capital`s natural disaster prevention and control in 2018.
According to Head of the Hanoi Branch of Dyke Management and Flood, Storm Prevention and Control Do Duc Thinh, the meteorology and hydrology are forecasted to have further complicated, unexpected changes.

In order to minimize the loss caused by natural disasters, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development requests districts, towns and irrigation enterprises in Hanoi to check all reservoirs in the city, review the process of water storage and operation, detect damages, problems and fix them to ensure safety of the reservoirs in the flooding season of 2018.
The Hanoi Branch of Dyke Management and Flood, Storm Prevention and Control makes report on status of the dykes before floods, which specifies four key tasks and 12 critical places and indicates dyke protection plan to protect the key places in Hanoi.
By May 14, 11 out of 30 districts, suburban districts and towns of the city organize meetings to launch flood, storm prevention and control activities.
The Hanoi Park and Green Tree One-member Company Limited and Hanoi Water Drainage One-member Company Limited prepare their plan to respond to natural disasters and handle their consequences.
The municipal Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control requests the city’s departments, agencies to build plans on natural disaster prevention and control, search and rescue in 2018 with details and practical measures according to their functions and missions; increase leadership, prepare conditions to implement the plans promptly once incidents occur in the areas under their management.
People’s Committees of districts, suburban districts and towns are responsible for implementing plan on natural disaster prevention and control, search and rescue in the area; preparing forces, supplies, and plans to carry out the natural disaster prevention and control, search and rescue measures in the area, thus protecting people’s lives and overcome consequences of natural disasters; mobilizing forces to manage the dykes, conduct patrols and supervision; detecting and promptly handling any problems in the area as soon as they occur.
Speaking at the press conference, Director of the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and Deputy Head of Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control Chu Phu My confirmed that Hanoi has been investing significantly in the works for natural disaster prevention and control.
He also emphasized important role of the people in preventing and controlling natural disasters, and called on them to join hands for protecting the environment, reduce climate change, and not to throw garbage improperly, since it will affect water drainage once storm and heavy rain occur.
