Hanoi to organise a special cherry blossom festival
Beside displaying 200 Japanese cherry trees and some 10,000 branches of cherry blossoms, Cherry Blossom Festival 2016 in Hanoi, which will take place from March 19-20, will be prepared by Japanese designers to implement its decoration design and the opening ceremony.
The information was heard by Director of Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports To Van Dong at the press conference in Hanoi on March to announce the cultural exchanges and receive Japanese cherry trees. Cherry Festival has been paid attention of Hanoi’s youth in the recent years. In the spirit of cultural exchange, many provinces and cities have also organised ceremonies to receive and display cherry trees presented by the Japanese government.
Specially, Cherry Blossom Festival 2016, which is scheduled to take place at Hanoi’s Ly Thai To flower garden from March 19-20, is expected to be a memorable event as part of activities to mark 43th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Japan.
This year’s festival will display miniatures inspired by Hanoi’s flowers and include performances of Vietnam’s intangible cultural Vietnam such as Ca tru and Xam singings.
A wide variety of cultural activities are planned in connection with the event including Japanese art of flower arrangement, Japanese film screening, martial arts and dragon dance performances.
These activities are not only cultural exchanges between the two countries, but also highlight the sophistication of the festival.
200 Japanese cherry trees and some 10,000 branches of cherry blossoms were transported to Hanoi on March 16.
According to Director of the municipal Department of Culture and Sports To Van Dong, experts of Vietnam and Japan have studied very clearly the difference in weather between the two countries to determine the duration on display.
As planned, cherry trees will be introduced to the public for 2 days, but if the weather is favorable and flowers still are fresh, the organisers will extend a few more days, Dong said.
The cherry trees sent to Vietnam this time were selected from Japan’s Okinawa Prefecture, where the climate and soil conditions are similar to that of Hanoi.
In addition, the capital of Hanoi will plant 200 cherry trees as the gift from Japan at Hoa Binh Park.
Japanese experts will work with Vietnam responsible care to help plant flowers can live and bloom here.
