Hanoi city also asked the municipal districts, the departments of Construction and Transportation to make a priority using LED products to replace the downgraded street lighting systems.
The relevant agencies are instructed not to utilise incandescent and halogen lamps in public lighting systems.
At present, the city spends 260 billion VND to light the streets a year. The LED lights are expected to reduce cost to 90-120 billion VND.
The city saved about 325 million kWh of electricity in 2015 through the National Target Programme on Economical and Efficient Use of Energy.
Hanoi targets to cut its energy consumption by 2-3% in 2016 compared to the demand forecast, with the aim to decrease the energy-to-GDP elasticity to 0.95% by 2020 from 1.48% last year.
