Hanoi to make parks great again in 2023: Mayor

The city plans to build nine new parks during the 2021-2025 period.

Hanoi would come up with a new investment mechanism so that there would be no longer fences surrounding public parks and no entry tickets for the benefit of the people.

Hanoi People's Committee Chairman Tran Sy Thanh hinted at a park development plan during a municipal People's Council meeting on October 14, where officials discussed investment in socio-technical infrastructure in urban areas.

A Hanoi People's Council report shows the city has been carrying out 266 urban development projects, 168 of which have been incomplete in terms of technical infrastructure, or 63% of the total.

"The unfinished technical infrastructure, such as parking lot, wastewater treatment station, lighting system or parks, are causing concern among the people," stated the report.

The Hanoi's mayor noted the municipal People's Committee has set up a task force led by one of its Vice Chairman to speed up the construction of new parks.

"2023 will be the year when parks become great again," Thanh said, stressing the plan for Hanoi to find soon a new investment mechanism to invest in the city's public parks for the benefit of the people.

Currently, Hanoi has four parks under the city's administration, including Thong Nhat, Thu Le, Bach Thao, and Hoa Binh. Since late 2021, Hanoi has planned to upgrade these parks but faces numerous difficulties.

Meanwhile, over 40 parks under the management of districts are subject to maintenance during the 2021-2025 period, such as Linh Dam, Bac Linh Dam, Ba Mau, Nghia Do, Cau Giay, Den Lu, Indira Gandhi, or Nguyen Trai.

Hanoi also set the goal to build nine new parks by 2025, including those in the Hanoi Southwest urban area; CV1 at Cau Giay and Nam Tu Liem districts; Chu Van An memorial park in Thanh Tri; Kim Quy cultural, tourism and entertainment park in Dong Anh; Phung Khoang lake park in Nam Tu Liem and Thanh Xuan districts; or Ha Dong park.
