Restaurants and bars in Hanoi’s Hoan Kiem district will be allowed to open until 2am instead of 24pm as before since September 1, according to a recent decision by the Hanoi People’s Committee.

The rule is only being applied in the last three days of each week on a trial basis. The decision has received positive feedback from travel companies who hope that it will make tourists stay longer in Hanoi. Along with the permission, the city requires facilities that open late at night to ensure conditions on safety and security, as well as to have good sound-proofing.

Expressing support for this decision, Ms. Genie Bouchard (Canadian) said: "Due to time zone difference, at 12pm in Hanoi, I could not sleep. At that time, I'd love to visit Old Town or dining, but most shops were closed, so I must stay at the hotel. I felt useless and wasted time. Thus allowing the restaurant, bar to open until 2 am will help Hanoi to be more attractive".

Nguyen Tien Dat, Deputy Director of the Hanoi-based TransViet Travel Company, said that allowing entertainment and eating places to open until 2 AM is good news because it makes Hanoi more attractive with entertainment activities at night.

Nguyen Cong Hoan, Deputy Director of the HanoiRed Tours Travel Company, recommended the city should plan a particular area for night entertainment, so security will be ensured better.

General Director of APT Travel Company Nguyen Hong Dai also said that this job will bring double benefits for the Capital's tourism. In particular, stimulating the development of services and products; prolonging length of guests' stay; increasing revenues and attractiveness for tourism.
