Hanoi to host cultural activity honouring minority ethnic culture
According to an announcement of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, a cultural programme promoting ethnic minority groups’ vibrant traditional culture and customs will take place at the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism in Son Tay Town, Hanoi from January 1-3.
Participating in the event, visitors will have a chance to enjoy ethnic cuisine and specialties as well as performances by ethnic minority amateur artists.
In addition, numerous folk games such as “con” throwing, sack jumping and hopscotch game, among others will be included at the programme.
In particular, the organising board will dedicate a space to tug-of-war ritual and game, which were recently added to UNESCO’s list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity icons. Tug-of-war is a folk game that is practiced in some traditional festivals and community events in northern Vietnam.
The daily life of Muong and Thai ethnic people will be introduced to local residents and tourists during the event.
