Hanoi to create a best learning environment for students
At present, most of districts and wards in the capital have completed fundamental preparations for teaching, learning, and training, with teachers ready to serve more than 1.7 million students at all levels.
A ceremony to open the 2016-2017 academic year will be held on September 5 in schools nationwide.
Up to now, schools in 30 districts and towns across the city have completed the preparations to welcome over 1.7 million students at all levels.
According to the municipal Department of Education and Training, in the 2016-2017 academic year, the city has more than 2,600 schools and educational institutions with more than 1.7 million students from kindergarten to high school.
Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Education and Training Chu Xuan Dung said, the department Training asked schools to prepare infrastructure, foster the training for teachers to accomplish 7 key tasks.
In the 2016-2017 academic year, Hanoi will also continue to apply a new model of learning and teaching, called the Vietnam Escuela Nueva (VNEN), at primary and secondary schools.
Pham Xuan Tien, Deputy Director of the city's Education and Training Department, said the model was designed to make students more engaged in class with teachers serving as facilitators, and parents as well as other community members more involved in making learning relevant to children.
“We’ll implement the program step by step. First we’ll focus on communications with schools and parents, calling on them to support the model but without forcing students to participate in the program. If schools find it applicable, they can register. To make the model successful, teachers should change their way of thinking,” said Tien.

The 2016-2017 academic year is the third year the sector has conducted the government’s action plan on fundamental renovation of the educational system, under which the Ministry has set out nine priority missions for the future.
They include stepping up the vocational direction for students; improving the quality of teaching and learning of foreign languages; and boosting the application of IT to teaching, learning, and education management.
