The Hanoi's key road project worth US$17.3 million is expected to be operational on January 10, 2021, two months ahead of schedule.

The interchange of Highway 3 and Hanoi - Hai Phong expressway is an important road junction between and urban expressway (Ring Road 3) and the Hanoi - Hai Phong expressway and having a total investment of over VND402 billion ($17.3 million).

The project would be a prerequisite for urban development for Gia Lam district, Hanoi.

Being executed from 2019 to 2021, when completed, the intersection will help directly connect Gia Lam district with Long Bien district, creating the most convenient traffic direction, and a prerequisite for urban development for Gia Lam district in particular and Hanoi in general.

The interchange starts at Km 0-420 (connecting to Co Linh road) and ends at Kilometer 1+ 065.74 with the length of nearly 1.5 kilometer and the width of between 33 – 51meter, directly connecting Long Bien – Thach Ban road with Hanoi – Hai Phong expressway.

It will directly connect the two districts of Gia Lam and Long Bien in Hanoi.

The area of the interchange is 620 meter long and 26.50 meter wide with the synchronous greenery and lighting system. Previously, there was no expressway for – to Hai Phong from Co Linh street or Vinh Tuy bridge but only byways.

Similarly, from Thanh Tri bridge to Long Bien district, they must also go around the intersection in Ecopark urban area and turn to Co Linh street.

When completed, the project will help vehicles enter and exit the highway conveniently and safely, shorten the journey, and optimize the investment efficiency of Ring Road 3, Hanoi - Hai Phong expressway and Co Linh road. The conjunction also helps reducing the congestion in this entrance to Hanoi as well as promoting socio-economic development of the city.

Being considered as one of the activities to celebrate the 13th National Congress of the Communist Party, the project might be inaugurated before Vietnamese traditional Lunar New Year 2021.

Work on the project began on January 6 and so far, over 95 percent of construction has been completed, meeting technical and quality requirements. Contractors are focusing on implementing items of traffic safety, installing lighting and other technical infrastructure in order to inaugurate the work before Vietnamese traditional Lunar New Year 2021, as one of the activities celebrating the 13th National Congress of the Communist Party.

According to Mr. Nguyen Chi Cuong, Deputy Director of Hanoi Management Board on Traffic Work and Construction Investment, in order to speed up the progress, the Board had already cooperated with contractors to drastically implement the project. The workers of the project are mobilized to work three shifts a day and keep working 24/24 hours per day.

The last steps of the working process are almost completed.

Currently, the construction units are conducting the plastic carpet section from the Hai Phong - Hanoi expressway to the intersection at Co Linh road (in Gia Lam district, Hanoi), painting the lines, installing the sign and light system as well as planting more trees.

Currently, the project has been basically completed, and the Hanoi Management Board on Traffic Work and Construction Investment will report the City authority to get traffic permission between January 1 and 10, 2021.
