Hanoi’s supporting industries welcome new investment wave

Investment from foreign companies into supporting industries in Hanoi could help local firms further integrate into global supply chains.

Seen as a magnet attracting foreign and domestic investment into the field of supporting industries in the capital city, the Hanoi Southern Supporting Industrial Park (HANSSIP) has been the destination of new projects recently.

HANSSIP, designed under the Japanese standard by design consultant firm Nikken Seikkei Civil for on-site production chains, covers an area of 640 hectares and is located in Hanoi's Phu Xuyen district, adjacent to National Highway 1A and National Highway 1B - Phap Van Cau Gie.

At full capacity, HANSSIP could accommodate up to 2,000 enterprises and create 150,000 – 200,000 direct jobs.

In late March, Japan-based Onaga, producers of aircraft components for Boeing and Airbus, held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a manufacturing facility at HANSSIP.

Masaru Onaga, director of Onaga, said this is the starting point for hundreds of Japanese companies from Kobe prefecture in particular, and Japan in general, to invest at HANSSIP and other supporting industrial parks in Vietnam.

“Onaga would pump hundreds of millions of dollars to form supply chains with its Vietnamese partners so that they could further integrate into our value chains, and eventually the global ones,” he added.

General Director of N&G Corporation and owner of HANSSIP Pham Quang Khai said multinationals in the fields of aircraft components, electronics parts, or electric car production have come to HANSSIP to build manufacturing plants, mentioning names such as South Korean company MBI, which is specialized in manufacturing products using renewable energies or members of the Japan Die and Mold Industry Association.

Chairman of the Hanoi Supporting Industries Business Association (HANSIBA) Nguyen Hoang expected recent contracts between HANSSIP and companies from South Korea and Japan would spread the name of the city’s industrial parks to investors from Vietnam and abroad.

“Hanoi gives priority to building key infrastructure in industrial parks and clusters to further attract investment into the city and create the foundation for the development of the industrial sector,” said Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen.
