Hanoi has been striving to have more schools meeting the national standards to reduce disparity ratio of standard schools in the city, according to local media.

As of September 15, Hanoi had 1,458 public schools meeting the national standards, accounting for 66.8% of the city's total, but the ratio of national-standard schools to public ones in the city differs considerably among the districts.

Specifically, 16/30 localities had higher proportion of national-standard school than the city’s average. In particular, Bac Tu Liem district currently has the highest proportion in the city with 90.5%, Ba Vi district has the lowest one with 41.6%.

Increasing the number of national standard schools, reducing the difference in the proportion of standard schools among districts is Hanoi’s target in 2019, in order to create equality in educational environment for all students. Based on practical conditions, each locality has its own solution to tackle the issue.

Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training Le Ngoc Quang requires the districts to ensure the quality in building national-standard schools and not to run after the quantity.

The municipal People's Committee, as per proposals by the Department of Education and Training, will have solutions to help the districts with lower rates of standard schools such as financial subsidies for school building, Quang said.
