Hanoi speeds up wastewater treatment project in Hoai Duc district

Wastewater in craft villages is almost untreated and discharged directly into the environment.
The issue of wastewater in craft villages is a headache for Hanoi's authorities, who are speeding up a wastewater treatment project in Hoai Duc district, to ensure both economic development and environmental protection.

The delegation of the Hanoi People's Council No.24 supervised the implementation progress, management and operation of craft village projects in Hoai Duc district on August 15.

The delegation visited the Cau Nga concentrated wastewater treatment plant in Duong Lieu commune, the project to build the wastewater treatment plant in Son Dong commune and worked with Hoai Duc district’s leaders and related departments.

According to the People's Committee of Hoai Duc district, of the 12 traditional villages recognized in the district, three villages producing agricultural products (Duong Lieu, Minh Khai, Cat Que) and La Phu village producing confectionery and knitting products pollute the environment, affecting the water source of Nhue and Day rivers.

Up to nine handicraft villages and 15 communes and towns have wastewater collection and treatment projects, including Cau Nga wastewater treatment plant, Phu Dien Investment & Trading JSC., Son Dong wastewater treatment plant, waste water treatment plant in Van Canh commune.

Up to now, Son Dong plant project has completed 90% of construction work and is expected to be handed over in Q4 of 2018. The district People's Committee requested the project management unit to work with related units to propose feasible plan for the remaining construction work.

Director of the municipal Department of Natural Resources and Environment Nguyen Trong Dong said that it is necessary to improve people’s awareness to minimize the discharge to the drain and protect environment. The production of livestock also needs to strictly handle the environment. The manufacturers that fails to do so won't be allowed to keep operating.

Vice Chairman of the People's Council Nguyen Ngoc Tuan stressed that protecting the environment of craft villages is an urgent task because there are many craft villages in Hanoi, including more than 50 craft villages Hoai Duc district. Three wastewater treatment projects in Hoai Duc district were kicked off in 2013 and but are yet completed, Tuan added.

To early put the plant into operation, Tuan suggested investors to promptly report if there are any obstacles. The units should publicize and propagandize to get people's concensus and submit to Hanoi city in November 2018.
