Hanoi welcomed nearly 5.9 million arrivals in the first three months of 2023, double the number recorded in the same period last year, according to the Hanoi Tourism Department.
The department said the figure was up 62.7% from the previous two months.

Among the arrivals, the number of international visitors to the city was nearly 980,000, an increase of 54.6 percent compared to the previous two months. Meanwhile, the number of domestic visitors reached 4.9 million, up 64.6% in the same period.
Tourism revenue reached VND21.5 trillion (US$917 million) in the first quarter of this year, up 61.4% over the previous two months and 2.6 times higher than the same period last year.
The average occupancy rate of accommodations in all categories was 56.5% in the first quarter of this year, up 37.2% year-on-year.
Dang Huong Giang, the director of the Hanoi Tourism Department, said the tourism sector has launched many major events to promote travel to the city, such as the kick-off event - the "Get on Hanoi 2023" program, and the Hanoi Tourism Festival 2023.
"Simultaneously, we continue to support localities and businesses to innovate products and services related to cultural values and agritourism, experiential tourism in districts and cities to attract domestic and international visitors," she said.
As of March 2023, Hanoi has 3,756 tourist accommodation facilities with more than 70,000 rooms, including 602 hotels with 25,432 rooms, accounting for 16% of the total.
Hanoi has 29 eating and drinking places, 35 shopping services, six entertainment services and one sports service, which have been recognized as meeting the standards for serving tourists.
This year, the city's tourism sector aims to welcome three million international visitors, double the number in 2022, according to the Hanoi Tourism Department's 2023 Plan.
The sector focuses on implementing a plan to improve the quality of tourism products, tourism destinations related to heritage - relics and handicraft villages in districts and towns, focusing on four main routes, including those from downtown to Bat Trang Pottery Village in Gia Lam District, Huong Son in My Duc District, Thach That District, Quoc Oai, Son Tay, and Ba Vi.
The department said the city will continue to strengthen communication and promotional tourism activities, such as stronger dissemination of tourist destinations and new tourism products of the capital through international media channels, websites, and social networking platforms (Youtube and Facebook) with the messages "Hanoi - Travel to Love" and "Hanoi - A Safe and Attractive Tourist Destination".
