Hanoi ready to prevent MERS-CoV from entering the city
In the meeting with Hanoi`s MERS-CoV prevention steering committee on June 11, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Van Suu required all sectors, districts and towns implement strictly prevention measures of MERS-CoV, even when it has had no cases of MERS-CoV entering Vietnam.
According to Hanoi Department of Health, although it has reported no cases of MERS-CoV, the municipal health sector has already implemented some prevention measures of the disease, such as boosting supervision at border gates.
The backup health system has been strengthened with 65 teams of mobile disease prevention, and has ensured enough equipment for disease investigation and treatment.
Hospitals were asked to arrange all necessary facilities to cope with identified cases and strictly follow infection protocols.
Hotels were asked to inform customers of the signs of the disease and report any suspicious cases to health centres.
At the meeting, the localities were also asked to implement community publicity campaigns.
Although Vietnam has not recorded any cases of MERS-CoV, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Van Suu asked the health sector to maintain prevention measures of disease.
In particular, it is neccessary to strictly implement the supervision of passengers entering Vietnam at border gates, not only at airports but also through other border gates, he said.
The Vice Chairman required the municipal Department of Health coordinate with the Center for International Health Quarantine to rehearsal plans of moving people, who can be suspected to infect the MERS-CoV to isolation areas the most quickly.
Along with prevention of the disease, cultural and tourism activities should be maintained, avoiding the excessive propaganda makes people panic, Vice Chairman Suu added.
