Hanoi raises healthcare prices for uninsured people
As Hanoi currently has 86.7% of the population covered by health insurance, the price adjustment of medical services only affects those who are not paying health insurance.
Public healthcare facilities in Hanoi have raised the prices of nearly 2,000 healthcare services for people not covered with health insurance from May 1, the government portal reported.
Specifically, the people without health insurance must pay their healthcare bills on the basis of the basic salary of VND1.39 million (around US$60), instead of the outdated basic salary of VND1.15 million (US$49.45).
Hanoi's public healthcare facilities, including general and specialized hospitals, specialized centers, general hospitals in districts, general clinics, midwiferies, healthcare stations in communes will officially adjust medical pricing for people who do not have health insurance cards.
The list of services excluded from health insurance coverage will be ten medical examination and treatment services, six bed-day services, 1,937 technical and testing services applicable to different types of diseases.
The changes in health service prices will not affect patients who have been treated at a hospital before May 1 and discharged from hospital after May 1.
Hanoi currently has 86.7% of the population covered with health insurance, so the price adjustment of medical services this time only affects those who are not paying health insurance. The adjustment basically does not affect much children under six years old, poor people and social policy beneficiaries.
Director of the Hanoi Department of Health Nguyen Khac Hien said that when people’s salary rises, the adjustment for prices of healthcare services is necessary.
He stressed that the increase in prices of healthcare services is aimed at creating equality between insurance-covered people and uninsured people.
"The price adjustment will affect people's mindset on health insurance contribution, people will see the benefits when paying health insurance premiums” Hien added.
