Hanoi always dedicates sizable resources to improve local residents’ life quality, Kinh te & Do thi quoted Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Vuong Dinh Hue as saying at a meeting with voters in Ha Dong district on November 21.

Specifically, the municipal government is currently taking many solutions to deal with the pollution in rivers running through Hanoi, speeding up the construction of the wastewater collection system and investing in wastewater treatment plants, Mr. Hue said.

However, in the implementation process, there remain difficulties in planning and coordinating with relevant units, the municipal Party chief said, expressing his hope that voters would continue to support the city's solutions.

As for Hanoi's first metro line, the Cat Linh - Ha Dong urban railway project, Hanoi leaders also set a goal of bringing it into operation soon with a view to reducing traffic pressure in the city center. The metro line is scheduled to begin the 20-day safety assessment in early December as a requirement before it is put into commercial operation, Mr. Hue noted.

"The municipal authorities will review all green parks and plan to replace wet markets with green, clean, beautiful public areas in an attempt to promote modern trade," emphasized Mr. Hue.

He added that at a meeting between December 7 and 10, the Hanoi People's Council will elect the Chairperson of the People's Council and five vice chairpeople of the municipal People's Committee and discuss many important issues for 2021.

The meeting will also focus on discussing the support amount for the preschool education development in Hanoi.

Another important issue was to subsidize insurance premium for people living in environmentally-affected areas of the the Soc Son Waste Treatment Complex, the largest of its kind in Hanoi. This aims to soon complete site clearance and handle the remaining issues so that the construction of the waste-to-energy plant project, the largest one in Vietnam, in the district will be soon finished.

Once in service, the plant will have a processing capacity of 4,000 tons of waste per day to help treat litter collected from urban districts. It is expected to reduce waste pollution that affects the lives of locals.
