Hanoi Study Promotion Association continues to advise the city on promoting study, nurturing talent, and building a learning society.

Hanoi is making concrete plans to join UNESCO's Global Network of Learning Cities, according to Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Nguyen Thi Tuyen.

Speaking at the conference in response to the movement "The whole country vies to build a learning society, promote lifelong learning in the period 2023-2030" held in Hanoi last weekend, Tuyen said that Hanoi had achieved good results in the past and is on track to fulfill the goals set by the Vietnamese government, especially on the occasion of marking 15 years of adjusting its administrative boundary.

Hanoi has achieved all four basic goals of the Government's plan to build a learning society and has even surpassed some of them. Specifically, the literacy rate of people aged 15 to 60 reached 99.97%, while the national rate is 97.85%. The number of cadres and officials trained to meet the prescribed standards reached 100% (compared to the national rate of 94.22%). At the end of the 2012-2020 period, Hanoi was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Ministry of Education and Training for its excellent performance in building a learning society.

"Hanoi has made great progress in promoting studies, nurturing talents, and building a learning society, thanks to the important contribution of the Hanoi Study Promotion Association, one of the core units in building a learning society," Tuyen stressed.

"So far, the Association has more than 1.5 million members across the city; the number of "studying family" accounted for 71.25% of the total; the model of "learning citizen" is being built and replicated," said Nguyen Thi Ngoc Minh, Chairwoman of Hanoi Study Promotion Association.

On behalf of the city leaders, Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Nguyen Thi Tuyen praised the achievements of the Hanoi Study Promotion Association in recent years. She acknowledged the efforts and outstanding achievements of 185 people (113 students and 72 adult delegates), 18 good people with good deeds in study promotion.

To achieve better results in the study promotion work in the coming period, Tuyen asked the Hanoi Study Promotion Association to carry out tasks, such as advising the city to promote study promotion, nurturing talents, and building a learning society.

"The association must speed up digital transformation and application of information technology in the association's activities; coordinate with agencies, departments, and industries to provide various forms of training," Tuyen said.

The association has been actively consulting on strengthening international cooperation, especially with UNESCO; researching and exchanging experiences; enlisting the help of international and local organizations to nurture talents and build a "learning society".

Tuyen also suggested that Party committees and departments and the city's political system continue to support the association in realizing the goal of building a learning society in districts.
