A conference to link Hanoi’s vocational education to the labor market in 2022 with a series of practical activities will be held in early December with the participation of more than 10,000 people, according to the municipal Department of Labor, Invalid and Social Affairs.

The conference is scheduled for December 11 at the Center for Culture, Information and Sports in Bac Tu Liem District.

Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs Hoang Thanh Thai said that this is one of the key events to realize the direction of the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs on promoting synchronized mechanisms, policies and solutions to develop vocational education and skilled human resources.

"The conference will cover a series of activities related to vocational training, including counseling, employment opportunities, and career guidance among students. It aims to attract the participation of vocational training institutions, enterprises, parents and students from high schools, colleges, vocational training centers, and workers in the city," Thai said.

In addition, the conference aims to attract a large number of corporations and companies in need of workers. The organizers hope to create a good communication effect on vocational training activities and link vocational training with the labor market through a number of activities at the conference," he added.

Head of the Vocational Training Division of the Hanoi Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, Le Minh Thao, said the conference would also aim to create favorable conditions for vocational training institutions to reach out to students in secondary schools, high schools, and vocational training centers.

“It is expected to encourage the students to join creative start-up movement in Hanoi, contributing to timely updating the market trend and labor recruitment demand, increasing the rate of qualified labor in the capital city,” Thao stressed.

According to the Hanoi Labor, Invalid and Social Affairs Department, Hanoi has found jobs for nearly 118,000 people in the first six months of 2022 and continues to roll out many solutions to fulfill the target of helping 160,000 workers find jobs for the whole year.

In the last months of 2022, the city continues to implement solutions to energize the labor market, including reducing the time to handle administrative procedures, holding vocational training and finding new jobs for unemployed people, deploying policies to provide loans for job creation, labor export, production development, restoration and development of traditional handcraft industries.

The city also continues to implement policies to support employees, improve labor market forecasting, evaluate applications and approve loans, collect market information, and connect labor supply and demand in parallel with ensuring the prevention of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The department will also effectively implement the project to improve the operational efficiency of the city’s job exchanges in the 2021-2025 period and the following years.

For many years, the Hanoi Association of People with Disabilities has found jobs for its members through plans, programs, and projects to support people with disabilities of working age.

Vice Chairman of the Hanoi Association of People with Disabilities Trinh Xuan Dung said that the association has helped people with disabilities access loans from the Bank for Social Policies so that they can develop their own businesses.

"Over the past five years, some 2,000 people with disabilities have been granted a loan of VND40 billion (US$1.68 million) to run their business," Dung said.

He added that well-qualified young people with disabilities can be referred by the association to work in companies and production facilities in the area. Disabled people in wheelchairs who are IT proficient are trained in online sales.

Some big enterprises, after becoming aware of their social responsibilities and seeing some qualifications of people with disabilities, have hired them to work in suitable positions. In addition, some companies and cooperatives owned by people with disabilities also provide vocational training and create jobs for people in the same situation.

To accompany the disadvantaged people, the Hanoi Employment Service Center will keep coordinating with the municipal Association of People with Disabilities to organize job sessions for people with disabilities to help and encourage disadvantaged people to join the labor market.
