Hanoi officially names Truong Sa and Hoang Sa Roads
The 15th Hanoi People’s Council at its second plenary session on August 3 passed a resolution on naming and adjusting the length of a number of roads, streets and public buildings in the city.
Among the 26 newly-named streets there are two named after Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos and one after the nation’s outpost Ly Son Island.
The Truong Sa Road extends from the intersection with the overpass on Vo Nguyen Giap Street (Ngoc Chi hamlet, Vinh Ngoc commune, Dong Anh district) to the foot of Dong Tru Bridge (Dong Hoi commune, Dong Anh district). It measures 7.3km long and 68m wide.
The Hoang Sa Road begins from the intersection of Vo Van Kiet Street (opposite the Thang Long Industrial Park, Kim Chung commune, Dong Anh district) to the foot of the overpass at intersection on Vo Nguyen Giap Street, measuring 4.8km long and 68m wide.
The Ly Son Road stretches from the intersection with the flyover on National Highway No. 5 and Ngo Gia Tu, Nguyen Van Cu and Nguyen Van Linh Streets to the southeast leg of Dong Tru Bridge in Long Bien district.
Besides, the capital also named an array of roads in Long Bien, Bac Tu Liem, Cau Giay, Ha Dong, Me Linh, Hai Ba Trung, Thanh Xuan, Quoc Oai and Dan Phuong districts after the nation’s well-known sites and celebrities.
In addition, 6 inner city routes inluding Ton That Thiep, Hao Nam, Co Linh, Ke Tanh, Luu Huu Phuoc and Trieu Khuc, have been adjusted their length.
The bridge crossing Duong River, starting from Ngoc Thuy ward in Long Bien district to Dong Tru village in Dong Hoi commune of Dong Anh district, was named Dong Tru.
According to the reports at the session, the naming of Hoang Sa and Truong Sa Roads in Hanoi showed the aspiration of local residents in particular and the country in general, demonstrating Hanoian’s dedication to the nation’s sovereignty over Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos.
The city authorities have been studying the name changes since 2010 and the streets were carefully selected as the most modern and beautiful roads to bear the names of the two archipelagos.
Several localities nationwide also chose to name main roads after Hoang Sa and Truong Sa.
