Hanoi: Mid-Autumn Festival 2016 to be celebrated in Old Quarter

According to the People’s Committee of Hoan Kiem District, Mid-Autumn Festival 2016 will take place from September 2 -15 (on the 2nd to 15th day of the 8th lunar month) in Old Quarter to serve people, especially children.

The Mid-Autumn festival is celebrated throughout Old Quarter. The festive atmosphere starts to build two weeks before the festival. During the festival, kiosks along Hang Ma, Hang Luoc, Hang Ruoi Streets, in front of Dong Xuan Market and pedestrian streets of Hang Dao - Dong Xuan - Hang Giay will sell toys, moon cakes and mid-autumn accessories.

The opening ceremony of this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival will occur on September 2. There will be various cultural activities on the occasion, such as organizing folk arts and culture performances, music performance of children, presenting scholarships to outstanding pupils who overcome daily hardship, instructing children how to make folk toys, green rice flakes and moon cakes; lantern procession, lion dance, folk games, etc.

In addition, the festival will also be held at some cultural and historical relic sites, such as Kim Ngan Temple (42-44 Hang Bac street), Quan De Temple (28 Hang Buom Street), Cultural Exchange Centre (50 Dao Duy Tu Street), Heritage House (87 Ma May Street). On the framework of the event, children can learn to make traditional toys under the instruction of artists, join photo exhibitions on Mid-autumn Festival and puppetry performances, etc.

This is an annual event of Hanoi Old Quarters Management Board to create venues for people in general and children in particular to learn about traditional cultural values and raise their awareness of preserving national culture, protecting and promoting the value of cultural heritages.
