“Hanoi along with five other cities in the world and the sole candidate of the Asia-Pacific was conferred  the title “City for Peace”. The event proves to be significant demonstrating strong belief and desire of the Vietnamese people for peace, while enhancing the country’s prestige on the global stage,” Chung said.

This is also considered a source of pride and motivate Hanoi’s people to contribute to the prosperity and development of the capital, Chung added.

According to Chung, after 20 years, Hanoi has become a multi-cultural city with high economic growth rate.

Moreover, the city has been widely recognized as a safe and friendly destination by the world community, Chung continued.

Hanoi puts the citizens at the center of its economic development process, and encourages a better and cultured lifestyle among the people.

Chung stressed the city gives priority to education and nourishing the next generation, considering it a strategy for development. Meanwhile, science and technology is the driving force for Hanoi to achieve sustainable development and build a smart city.

Hanoi’s population is around 8 million, nearly triple that 20 years ago. The city is facing growing challenges from the urbanization process, but remains steadfast on ensuring inclusive growth, Chung stated.

Hanoi has become a center connecting global values, holding cooperation agreements with over 100 capitals and cities from all around the world, Chung said.

“The city has been responsible and active contributor at international events,” Chung added.
