The gifts will be given to people of meritorious services, poor households, the elderly, workers in difficult circumstances, and people with disabilities.

The Hanoi People's Committee has drawn up plans to give gifts to more than one million revolutionary veterans and needy people during the traditional Lunar New Year [Tet holiday] in 2024.

The gifts will be given to people of meritorious services, poor households, the elderly, workers in extremely difficult circumstances, and people receiving disability benefits.

According to the plan, Hanoi's list of gift recipients and the cost of gifts will remain the same from 2023. Preparation of gifts for people receiving social assistance will be completed before January 25. The total cost is estimated at over VND552 billion ($22.8 million).

In keeping with the tradition of taking care of welfare families and revolutionary veterans, especially during Tet and major holidays, the Hanoi People's Committee has assigned the city's Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs to lead the gift distribution plan.

In addition to the gifts from the city, each district would have its own policy to support disadvantaged families according to actual conditions and capabilities.

Nguyen Tien Hien, a resident of the outskirts of Hanoi's Dan Phuong District, senses the coming of Tet holiday when he, as a revolutionary veteran, would receive a special gift from the city government.

"We feel Tet is approaching because of the timing of the gifts. It makes us feel comfortable and happy," Hien told The Hanoi Times.
