Upholding the virtues of Uncle Ho's soldiers

October 10, 1954, has become a glorious chapter in the nation's history. The military and citizens of the capital marched through Hanoi's five gates, reclaiming the city and marking the end of a nine-year struggle against French colonial rule. This victory resonated globally, inspiring oppressed nations to rise in their fights for independence and self-determination.

During the ceremony, attendees viewed a documentary titled "Determined to Die for the Fatherland to Survive," which highlighted the heroic and resilient efforts of the military and people of the capital in their victory over French colonial forces 70 years ago. The film reminded today's generation of one of the most remarkable moments in history, showcasing the revolutionary heroism and intelligence of Vietnam in its fight for national liberation.

In an atmosphere of solemnity and warmth, attendees reflected on that golden era – a period of pain and pride.

Veteran Le Van Tinh recalled October 10, 1954, when he was a messenger for Company 238, Regiment 102 of the Capital Pioneer Division. "At 5 AM, we marched from Phung Village toward Hanoi. As we crossed Cau Dien, Hanoi appeared with a sea of flags, flowers, and banners, with 'Long Live Ho Chi Minh' standing out. Crowds waved flags, their eyes filled with tears, reaching out as if to embrace long-lost loved ones."

He expressed hope that the younger generation would emulate those who sacrificed for the capital's liberation and strive to be good citizens. He urged Party members to uphold President Ho Chi Minh's values of diligence, thrift, integrity, and selflessness to protect national independence and promote the people's happiness.

The city continues to ensure social welfare, focusing on policies for revolutionary contributors. In celebration of the 70th anniversary of the capital's liberation, 714 houses have been built for the poor, and relief efforts supported families affected by recent storms.

Hanoi is actively pursuing strategic development tasks, including drafting the amended Capital Law and planning for 2021-2030 with a vision to 2050, along with major infrastructure projects.

Due to its achievements over the past 70 years, Hanoi has received prestigious awards, including three Gold Star Orders and the titles of "Heroic Capital" and "Hero of the People's Armed Forces."
