Hanoi extends Cherry Blossom Festival 2016
Cherry Blossom Festival 2016, a cultural exchange programme between Hanoi and Japan was scheduled to take place from March 19-20. However, Hanoi People`s Committee extended the festival through March 21 to serve the excited welcome of local residents and visitors.
Cherry Blossom Festival 2016, which is a memorable event as part of activities to mark 43th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Japan, opened at Hanoi’s Ly Thai To flower garden on March 19.

200 cherry blossom trees selected carefully from the southernmost prefecture of Okinawa were presented as gifts to Hanoi. The climate and soil in the Japanese prefecture are similar to that of the capital.
Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung highlighted culture as a key pillar to promote cooperation, mutual understanding and trust between the two countries and peoples.
A wide variety of cultural activities took place in connection with the event including Japanese art of flower arrangement, Japanese film screening, martial arts and dragon dance performances.
Participating in the cultural exchange programme, visitors had the chance to admire 10,000 Japanese cherry flower branches.
The event also included various cultural activities such as a photo exhibitions on Vietnamese and Japanese heritage; Vietnamese folk music like “ca tru” (ceremonial singing), “chau van” (spiritual singing) and “cheo” (traditional opera); martial arts performances; and lion dances.
According to the organisers, the event attracted thousands of tourists to admire Japanese cherry flower, as well as enjoy the art programme.
