Hanoi ensures road safety as holidays draw near
Anh Kiet 09:57, 2024/01/11
Hanoi will continue to strengthen traffic law education, driver awareness and traffic culture, as well as inspection and handling of traffic offenses.

Hanoi will continue to reduce the number of road accidents by 5%, relieve traffic congestion and ensure road safety for people, especially during holidays such as the Lunar New Year in 2024.

Deputy Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Duong Duc Tuan made the statement at the National Online Conference this week to recap the work on traffic order and safety in 2023, directions and tasks for 2024.

Tuan stressed that the plan aims to make Hanoi the leading city in traffic order and safety.

"The city authorities need to refine institutions and policies, ensure effective traffic management, raise people's sense of responsibility, and prevent and combat corruption among personnel directly involved in ensuring traffic order and safety," Tuan said.

He added that Hanoi will improve the efficiency of traffic law education, raise awareness among drivers and build a traffic culture, and strengthen the inspection and handling of traffic offenses.

He said Hanoi has applied state-of-the-art technology in transport, such as the use of GovOne software for infrastructure management, the GPS tracker for online tracking of all bus routes, and a surveillance camera system to monitor urban traffic.

"In the coming period, Hanoi will push forward investment in infrastructure to solve chronic traffic congestion," Tuan stressed.

In particular, Hanoi will build an online digital traffic map for traffic management, operation, and regulation, and develop an intelligent parking system to help people find and pay for parking conveniently.

The deputy chairman reported that in 2023, the number of traffic accidents in the city decreased by 10.3%. "Seven traffic accident black spots have been completely dealt with," Tuan quoted.

The Hanoi government has also instructed the city's Department of Transportation to focus on completing the road network, optimizing the performance of the bus network, applying for the inter-connected travel pass in 2024, and supporting and encouraging enterprises to use green energy in public transport in the city.

At the same time, Hanoi will urgently upgrade and maintain key transport routes in the urban area and set up a traffic flow plan to prevent prolonged congestion, especially before and after the Lunar New Year holiday.

"The Hanoi Department of Transport needs to ensure transport capacity, quality, and safety for passengers and goods, and minimize flight delays and cancellations so that passengers can return home in time for the Tet holiday," said Tuan.
