Hanoi-based businesses created nearly 79,000 jobs in the capital city in the first five months of this year despite the Covid-19 pandemic's negative impacts on almost all aspects of life, marking a year-on-year increase of 35.6%, according to the municipal Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs.

The department said the city's labor market has seen optimistic signals and the reduction of the unemployment rate in comparison with the same period last year.

More than 26,200 poor workers and social policy beneficiaries in the capital city have taken out loans with preferential interests from the Bank for Social Policies to develop production. The total loan is up to VND1,152 billion (US$48 million).

The city has also organized nearly 90 job transaction floors for matching enterprises with vocational training schools and job seekers. As a result, nearly 50,000 employees were recruited through the job transaction services, and 950 others were sent to work abroad.

New plan

Hanoi city has striven to effectively roll out industrial programs and projects, lure more investment projects into industrial zones as well as fostering the development of craft villages in the direction of improving quality, efficiency, and competitiveness for employment generation.

The city will also concentrate on improving the investment environment, solving difficulties for production and business, and thoroughly addressing concerns of enterprises, especially those on administrative procedures reform.

"With synchronous solutions to support the development of small and medium enterprises in the period of 2021-25, and promote start-ups and innovation, more jobs will be created" noted the plan.
