Hanoi, Amsterdam strengthen cooperation in environment

Chairman of Hanoi People`s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung received Ambassador of the Netherlands`s Kingdom to Vietnam Nienke Trooster in Hanoi on March 24.
During the meeting, on behalf of the Mayor of Amsterdam city, Ambassador Nienke Trooster expressed her desire that the relationships between Hanoi and Amsterdam as well as Vietnam and the Netherlands in general will continue to be expanded through cooperation on issues of mutual interest.

The diplomat said that Hanoi - Amsterdam cooperation has still had many potentials in areas such as water supply, sewerage, waste water treatment, management of surface and ground water, planning, spatial planning, and climate change response under the contents of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed earlier.
The two cities' authorities have promoted the imlementation of the renovating project for Lich river, she added.
Through the support from Amsterdam city, Hang Dau water tower was lit in 2015, being one of outstanding symbols of friendship cooperation between the two cities.
At the reception, Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung agreed with the ambassador's proposals and highly appreciated the Netherlands' support for Hanoi capital.
There will be various fields that Amsterdam can cooperate with Hanoi in the development plan for 2016 - 2020 period, Chung said.
The Chairman also believed that the two sides could expand the scale and promote implemented projects in areas of environment, wastewater treatment and rehabilitation of the urban landscape as well as the fields of education and culture.
Specially, the project of groundwater testing in Hanoi could be expanded with the aim of reviewing the entire groundwater system in the city, he added.
Amsterdam's business that supported Hanoi city to light Hang Dau water tower, should continue to cooperate in designing the lighting project of the capital, the Chairman proposed.
The Hanoi's leader also hoped Amsterdam city to support Hanoi in building environmental monitoring systems, as well as sharing experience in clean energy and climate change response.
Expressing her impressments to Hanoi's detailed plans on matters of mutual interest, Ambassador Nienke Trooster confirmed to make her best efforts becoming an active bridge to realize the mentioned cooperation potentials.
