Guest workers returning home from Libya receive assistance

The Ministry of Labour, War-Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA) will provide between VND1-5 million to guest workers who have had to return from Libya as a result of the country’s instability.
The amount each worker receives will depend on the time they had spent in the North African country.
Under the decision, labourers coming from the poorest districts of the country will receive an additional 50% of their allocation and all workers will receive additional support for air tickets should their employers not meet their obligations.
The enterprises contracting the labourers to work in Libya should have specific policies to assist the safety and well-being of those labourers continuing on in Libya.
The latest information from the MOLISA’s Overseas Labourers Management Department, showed that as of the afternoon of August 13, the last Vietnamese labourers had been moved away from the dangerous areas in Libya to Tunisia. After that, a working delegation from MOLISA and enterprises is available in Tunisia to support the labourers’ return to Vietnam by commercial flights on August 14-16.
The other group of 224 labourers, were sent from Libya to Egypt for onward travel to Vietnam.
A representative from the department also said that as of August 13, 907 labourers had returned to Vietnam safely while 294 others had left Libya for neighbouring countries such as Tunisia, Turkey and Egypt. The last of those returning directly are expected to land in Vietnam in several days.
