Government urgently supports affected farmers from mass fish death
Up to 5 million VND will be provided for fishing vessels in the central provinces of Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien-Hue below 90CV which are forced to temporarily stop going out to sea, according to the Prime Minister`s recent decision.
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on May 9 signed a decision to provide urgent assistance for farmers in these four central provinces, who were affected from the unusual fish death occurring in early April.
Accordingly, family members of fishing vessel owners and workers working on vessels and fishing logistics households are each offered to 15kg of rice per month over the course of one and a half month.
Under the decision, fishing vessels below 90CV which are forced to temporarily stop going out to sea will receive the aid worth up to 5 million VND.
Fishery business owners and fishing logistics vessels are provided interest-free loans within six months to stockpile seafood from May 5 – June 5.
Toxic fisheries which are caught in the waters 20 nautical miles to the shore will be granted financial aid worth less than 70 percent of their value.
In addition, other assistance will be reserved for environment clean-up, including transport and collection of disinfectants, among others.
The mass fish death was discovered in Ky Anh township, Ha Tinh province on April 6, then spread to Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien-Hue.
