"Furie" selected as Vietnam’s Oscar 2020 submission
The martial arts film directed by Le Van Kiet is about Hai Phuong, an ex-gangster mother in the adventure to rescue her kidnapped daughter.
Vietnamese action blockbuster Hai Phuong (Furie) will represent the country to compete at the 92nd Oscar in 2020 in the category of “Best international feature film”.
The film has been chosen by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism as Vietnam’s official entry for the nomination.
Ngo Thanh Van, the producer and also the main actress of the film, said she was honored with the selection and will make every effort to produce better films to promote Vietnam’s movie industry profile.
Launched in Vietnam in February, Furie hit the domestic box office with the eye-catching action scenes and then it was premiered at the US and Chinese box offices as well as Netflix, one of the largest media service providers in the world.
Furie has an almost perfect score of 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, the US’ review-aggregation website for film and television and also racked up mostly positive reviews from critics.

The 92nd Oscar ceremony will take place on February 9, 2020 in Los Angeles. The race in the category Best International Film is hotter than ever with the submissions of greatcontenders including South Korea’s Parasite, Pain and Glory from Spain, Les Misérables from France and The Painted Bird from the Czech Republic.
