The film has been chosen by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism as Vietnam’s official entry for the nomination.

Ngo Thanh Van, the producer and also the main actress of the film, said she was honored with the selection and will make every effort to produce better films to promote Vietnam’s movie industry profile.

Launched in Vietnam in February, Furie hit the domestic box office with the eye-catching action scenes and then it was premiered at the US and Chinese box offices as well as Netflix, one of the largest media service providers in the world.

Furie has an almost perfect score of 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, the US’ review-aggregation website for film and television and also racked up mostly positive reviews from critics.

This is the second consecutive year Vietnam submitted a film to the Academy Awards. "Co Ba Sai Gon” (The Tailor) was chosen to compete at the last holding of Oscar.

The 92nd Oscar ceremony will take place on February 9, 2020 in Los Angeles. The race in the category Best International Film is hotter than ever with the submissions of greatcontenders including South Korea’s Parasite, Pain and Glory from Spain, Les Misérables from France and The Painted Bird from the Czech Republic.
