Some 20 competitors, including five women, attended the 17th Vietnam Fun Cup or windsurfing competition, which opened at Phan Thiet beach’s Jibe Beach Club in the central coastal province of Binh Thuan on February 26.
The windsurfers from numerous countries and territories like Japan, Singapore, Russia, France and Spain will participate in men and women’s professional categories and compete in a 3,200-metre downwind slalom race.
The competition is held annually to create a playground for domestic and foreign windsurfers, as well as tourists visiting Phan Thiet.
In addition, the tournament is billed as an opportunity to popularise the province’s sea sports and tourism.
Money collected from the event will be used to support orphaned children in the locality.
