Four young leaders from Vietnam have been selected for the British Council’s prestigious global policy program - Future Leaders Connect.

The Vietnamese delegates are Hoang Anh Duc, director of the EdLab Asia Educational Research and Development Centre; Hoang Ngoc An, an LGBTQI+ advocate and lead researcher at It’s T Time; Le Hoang Phong, field advocate for the United Nations Development Program in Asia and the Pacific, and Khong Tuan Anh, coordinator of the Non-government Organization Climate Change Working Group and the Youth Climate Action Network in Vietnam.

Le Hoang Phong, one of the four Vietnamese delegates, is an advocate for care leavers with a particular interest in quality education and reducing inequalities. He is also a member of the ASIAN Advocacy Team at the United Network of Young Peace Builders. Photo: Hoang Phong

They will be joined by emerging leaders from around the world including Morocco, Egypt, Malaysia, India, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Pakistan, Poland, Kenya, Ukraine, Indonesia and the UK in a prestigious global network of next generation policy makers.

The four Vietnameses will be among 63 delegates from thirteen countries taking part in a six-week online policy and leadership program, where they will gain exclusive access to policy experts and training, discuss their policy ideas with the UK Parliamentarians and Government and be mentored by UK think tanks and other senior leaders.

In partnership with the prestigious Møller Institute at Cambridge University, Future Leaders Connect aims to help the delegates develop their skills, expand their networks and ultimately, make policy change.

This year’s young leaders were selected from over 9,000 applicants worldwide in a competitive process where they pitched their innovative policy ideas for global change.

Congratulating the participants, Donna McGowan, director of the British Council Vietnam, said: “We are delighted to be able to announce that four exceptional individuals from Vietnam are taking part in this year’s global program.”

“Future Leaders Connect is an opportunity for emerging leaders in Vietnam to collaborate with their counterparts from all over the world, and to benefit from the sharing of ideas and knowledge in tackling global issues and challenges. We wish them every success in the weeks ahead,” Donna McGowan added.

This year’s Future Leaders Connect program runs for six weeks online until November 19. Participants are encouraged to use hashtag #FutureLeadersConnect while joining the conversation online.

Future Leaders Connect continues the British Council’s work, building connection, understanding and trust between people in the UK and overseas through arts, education and English language teaching.
