Families of fishermen receive insurance

On May 24, a fishing boat, captained by Dang Phe, and seven sailors was rammed by a "strange" iron amoured ship. The fishing boat was heavily damaged and quickly sunk. One sailor, Dang Dum, was confirmed dead while another is still missing at sea.

The Quang Nai provincial authorities, in conjunction with the Bau Oi Group and two other companies granted the families harmed by such incidents 20 boxes of milk, 18 houses, worth an estimated VND40 million (USD1,900) each and 50 boat insurance plans, each worth VND500 million on June 25.

Truong Viet Nhung, head of the Bau Oi Group said, "For thousands of years, fishermen from the Ly Son Islands have been protecting and fishing in the seas around the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa islands. They have put up with natural disasters, occupations, accidents and have obviously been attacked. We want to do our part to help them continue their brave fishing expeditions."

A representative from Petro Vietnam Insurance Joint-Stock Company put up VND50 million for a policy to insure Dang Dum's family.

 Bags and notebooks given to students

Nguyen Hoa Binh, head of the Supreme People's Procuracy gave 800 school bags and 8,000 notebooks to 50 students on Ly Son Island. In addition, the Bau Oi Group presented An Hai Commune Primary School with VND5 million. They also gave two photos of the Truong Sa Island to the authorities of Quang Ngai Province and Ly Son District.
