The event aims to promote the trend of traveling by bicycle, environmentally friendly traffic, reducing carbon emissions, contributing to ensuring clean air and living environment in Vietnamese cities.
Ashui.com, an architecture forum, has launched the Wecyc (We cycle) Week in Vietnam for the first time to celebrate the 2019 World Bicycle Day (June 3), Tuoi Tre Online reported, citing founder of Ashui Le Viet Ha.

According to Le Viet Ha, Wecyc Week, which takes place in the first week of June every year, is aimed at celebrating the World Bicycle Day (June 3) and World Environment Day (June 5) of the United Nations.
The event targets promoting the trend of traveling by bicycle, environmentally friendly traffic, reducing carbon emissions, contributing to ensuring clean air and living environment in Vietnamese cities.
A bicycle movement is expected to be launched during the week, together with the conclusion and awarding ceremony of the competition Challenge to clean up trash in Thua thien – Hue, the initiation of the campaign Clean Air Day – Hanoi Green where experiences on bike sharing in Hanoi and Hue will be discussed.
The founder of Ashui said that in the long-term vision, Wecyc Week will contribute to the process of changing traditional mindset about transport, improving the understanding of city residents on autonomous and transferable traffic, encouraging people to switch from highly polluting personal vehicles to public transport and environmentally friendly means in urban areas in Vietnam.
On June 3, Hoi An in Quang Nam province launched a pilot bicycle-sharing scheme in cooperation with the German Development Cooperation Agency (GIZ) and Health Bridge Canada.
The scheme aims to encourage residents to move from petrol power to pedal power in the UNESCO-recognized World Heritage Site, which is a popular tourism hub in central Vietnam.
The development of non-motorized transport is seen as an environmentally friendly transport solution to preserve the heritage and attractions of the city. Hoi An has approved a bicycle transportation development plan with technical support from international experts.
Earlier, Hoi An has been named among six best places to explore on bicycles in the world, according to a list released by Agoda, a global online accommodation reservations provider.
