Kari Kahiluoto, the Finnish Ambassador to Vietnam shared this information with Chu Ngoc Anh, Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee at a meeting on April 1 in Hanoi.
Kahiluoto affirmed that the two countries are expanding their relationship from development cooperation to a broad collaboration in trade, investment and high technology. He hoped that the city authority would provide more support to Finnish companies investing and doing business in Vietnam in the near future.
Hanoi’s mayor Chu Ngoc Anh said the city always welcomes Finnish enterprises who are doing business here. The strengths of Finnish businesses are in line with the overall development priority of the capital's five-year plan, including innovation in growth models, technology development, urban embellishment, and dealing with issues arising during the process of urbanization.
“The city will make efforts to improve its business and investment environment and streamline administrative procedures in order to attract more foreign investors, especially in high-tech,” Ngoc Anh said.
Hanoi currently has four projects invested by Finland worth US$570,000. The city's export turnover to Finland was US$5.6 million and its imports were valued at US$2.8 million in 2020. These figures are not commensurate to the potential of the two sides and there is still plenty of room for this cooperation to grow, Ngoc Anh said.
Saying his working tenure in Vietnam will end this year, Ambassador Kahiluoto thanked Ngoc Anh and the city for the support.
For his part, the Hanoi’s mayor thanked the Ambassador for his efforts to promote the good traditional relationship between Finland and Vietnam.
