FEB 8: Vietnam’s Covid-19 infections surpass 2,000

The infections are likely to continue due to complicated traveling history of confirmed cases.

The number of people infected with SARS-CoV-2 virus in Vietnam has surpassed 2,000, including 533 active cases.

On February 8, the country reports four additional local infections, totaling 2,005. Of the tally, 533 cases are active, while the number of death remains 35.

Currently, local transmission is detected in 12 cities and provinces, including Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, after the resurgence of the virus in the community in the northern province of Hai Duong on January 28.

Authorities in the affected localities are keeping vigilance on the fight against Covid-19, staying ready to trace contact and quarantine of suspected cases as soon as possible, even at night in Hanoi on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Quang Ninh, one of the Covid-19 hotspots in the new wave, has decided some traveling restrictions from February 8, to which, inter-provincial public transport, including road and waterways, will be suspended, excepting for vehicles by diplomatic missions and ambulance among others.

As Tet holiday, the biggest traditional vacation, will begin in few days, the government has warned people of complying with safety rules and advised locals to limit unnecessary traveling as much as possible.

To ensure effective contact tracing, airports are required to document and report the list of crewmembers and passengers while coach stations need to store information of passengers for at least 21 days.

The requirement is understandable as aggressive contact tracing remains one of few key measures contributing to Vietnam’s Covid-19 success story.
