Exhibition titled "Visions of Viet Nam" held in France
Le Tran 13:28, 2014/03/17
Hundreds of black-and-white photos of Vietnamese rituals and relic sites will be shown at the Cernuschi Museum in Paris until June 29 as part of the Viet Nam-France Exchange Year.
The photos, which date from the late 19th century, have been preserved by the French School of the Far East (EFEO). They offer the French viewers a glimpse into many locations and ways of life that can no longer be found in Viet Nam today.

The exhibition also highlights the contributions by French archaeologists and scientists to preserving Vietnamese cultural heritage by establishing the first museums in the Southeast Asian country.

EFEO expert Isabelle Poujol said that the photos were scientifically meaningful, as they illustrate how the old temples were discovered and restored.

Director of the Viet Nam Cultural Centre in France Nguyen Hong Chuong said more cultural heritage research collaboration between Viet Nam and France was necessary. Many useful documents on Viet Nam's culture and history were preserved in France, Chuong said.

The event follows the "From the Red River to the Mekong" exhibition held in Paris last year.
