Human rights protection is among the priorities that Vietnam views in the long term.

Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang on June 6 criticized the European Union’s Annual Report on Human Rights and Democracy in the World for delivering inaccurate information about Vietnam.

At the ministry’s regular conference, Hang told the press that the report reflects key achievements and progressive milestones Vietnam has made in protecting human rights.

However, there are still untrue, unverified details regarding the practices in Vietnam, she said.

Hang claimed that Vietnam remains consistent in protecting and promoting human rights, and people are viewed as the center and momentum of the national socio-economic reform.

She affirmed that Vietnam always strives to improve the living standards, benefits, and interests of the people, as well as ensure their rights as per the Constitution and the laws.

The spokesperson emphasized that Vietnam’s efforts and achievements in human rights protection are well-received by the world and that the Government is willing to work with the EU on this matter to enhance mutual understanding and cooperation.

“We believe that the promotion of discussions and dialogues through existing cooperation mechanisms will help the EU have full objective information and understand more rightly the protection and promotion of human rights in Vietnam, thus contributing to the enhancement of the Vietnam-EU relations.”
