Ensure best conditions for visitors to walk: Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung
Hanoi People`s Committee held a ceremony on September 1 to pilot opening more walking area around Hoan Kiem Lake on the occasion of the 71st National Day (September 2).
Chairman of the municipal People's Committee Nguyen Duc Chung attended the event.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung said that more streets around Hoan Kiem Lake that are shut to traffic for pedestrians at weekends will meet the needs of cultural activities and healthy recreation of local residents, domestic and foreign tourists.
At present, the Hoan Kiem district has installed a guide signage system, allocated 78 points to keep vehicles, parking and some free parking areas. Twenty-one hotspots have been installed around Hoan Kiem Lake to provide free public wifi service in the area.
The Chairman asked relevant departments and agencies, and Hoan Kiem district to actively implement the assigned tasks, strengthen the order management, and ensure environmental hygiene, safety and explosion-proof. It is necessary to focus on managing the commercial operations and services in the area in order to organise the walking streets safely and effectively, Chung stressed.
The Hanoi's leader also suggested people and visitors actively and voluntarily implement the provisions of the walking area around Hoan Kiem Lake.
Specially, restaurant and bar owners should best serve the needs of tourists, closely coordinate with the relevant units to ensure environmental hygiene, security and order, thus creating the best environment for visitors to the capital, Chairman Chung noted.
He also expressed his hopes that local residents and visitors will be pleased with the pedestrian streets around Hoan Kiem lake, a special cultural space of the Hanoi capital.
The streets will be closed to traffic from 19:00 - 2:00 am in summer and 18:00 to 2:00 am in winter from Friday to Sunday and on some holidays.
