Sri Lankan Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Badiutheen told his Vietnamese counterpart Le Huy Hoang at their talks in Hanoi on August 21.
Vietnamese exports to Sri Lanka jumped 11.8% to US$66 million in the first six months of this year while imports are estimated at US$43 million, 139% higher than last year’s same period, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
The two ministers also agreed to establish a joint trade subcommittee and speed up the implementation of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on oil and gas cooperation in the coming time.
Sri Lanka currently ranks 65th out of 101 countries and territories investing in Vietnam with more than US$14 million invested in 10 projects. Two-way trade between the two countries achievesan annual impressive growth rate of 22%.
