Enhancing bilateral relationship between Vietnam and Indonesia
Indonesia’s Vice President Jusuff Kalla and newly-accredited Vietnamese Ambassador to Indonesia Hoang Anh Tuan reached the consensus during their meeting in Jakarta on January 11.
Vietnam and Indonesia need to enhance economic, trade and investment ties and speed up the implementation of an action plan on realising their strategic partnership in the period of 2014-2018.
At the reception, the Indonesia leader highly appreciated the cooperation between the two countries in the fields of politics, economy and culture, affirming that his country attaches importance to boosting ties with Vietnam.
He expressed his wish that the two nations will increase maritime cooperation, accelerate negotiations on demarcation of an exclusive economic zone at sea, and promote collaboration in education-training and culture.
For his part, the Vietnamese ambassador said he is pleased with the development of the bilateral relationship, especially since the two countries set up their strategic partnership in June 2013. With the current pace, two-way trade is expected to hit 10 billion USD by 2018 as pledged by the two countries’ leaders, he added.
Affirming Vietnam’s determination to continuously tighten its relations with Indonesia, Tuan said that the two countries will see great cooperation opportunities in 2016 as the formation of the ASEAN Community marks a comprehensive regional integration.
Indonesia’s Vice President stressed that Vietnam and Indonesia have important strategic interests and need to work together closely in maintaining peace and security in the East Sea. Ambassador Tuan pledged that he will do its utmost to boost cooperation and exchanges to promote mutual understanding and trust between the Vietnamese and Indonesian people and armies.
Vietnam and Indonesia have many common interests and their bilateral ties significantly contributes to maintaining peace maintenance and prosperity in the region and the world, Ambassador Tuan said. According to the diplomat, Vietnam and Indonesia have witnessed positive development in their relations in economics, politics, security–defence and education since they established their diplomatic ties in 1955. They upgraded their comprehensive partnership to a strategic partnership in June 2013.
The Vietnam-Indonesia strategic partnership will serve as a catalyst for developing other bilateral relations within the bloc, which will create support for promoting solidarity and cooperation in ASEAN. Enhancing relations between the two countries will contribute to improving ASEAN’s central role in building regional architecture, he said, adding that this will also help realise their economic development targets and increase their position in the region and the world.
