Vietnamese internet-users have began a campaign to stop buying Chinese-made mobile phones in the wake of an illegal Chinese oil rig operating in Vietnamese waters.

A Vietnamese facebook user calls on the public to boycott Chinese products

The incident has been the cause of much international discussion and Vietnamese outrage, prompting people to stop buying Chinese products, including mobile phones.

DTiNews readers have shown their strong opposition to the illegal Chinese action through their comments, many of which expressed the hope that DTiNews could be used as a forum to start an international boycott of Chinese products.

One commenter, said, "Please say no to Chinese products! The money they make will only go towards weapons that could harm Vietnam.”

Some Chinese mobile phone producers seem to be aware of the situation. A representative from a mobile phone retailer in HCM City said if the situation continues, sales of Chinese mobile phones will fall.

Also, recently, the Chinese mobile phone producer Huawei cancelled the launch of a new product in Vietnam due to the tenuous East Sea situation.
