Each Vietnamese spends nearly 38 USD on medication in 2015
According to the statistics of the Health Ministry, in the first 10 months of 2015, medicine cost of each Vietnamese was nearly 38 USD, rising by 10% from the previous year and almost doubling the 2009 figure.
At a workshop held on March 16 in Hanoi, Deputy Minister of Health Pham Le Tuan said that Vietnam spends about 3.4 billion USD on medication annually.
According to Deputy Minister Tuan, Pharmaceuticals produced in Vietnam were worth about 1.65 billion USD in 2015, increasing by 18% from 2014 and meeting 48% of domestic medicine consumption demand.
During the workshop, which is focused on the importance of quality and innovation in pharmaceutical sector, participants discussed new points in the draft revised law on pharmaceuticals and were updated on the medicine quality issue.
They also shared foreign experience in managing medicine quality, preventing counterfeit medication, and facilitating pharmaceutical inventions.
