Deputy PM Vu Duc Dam: Necessary to promote non-cash payment
The e-payment will be one of the important factors to evaluate the development of the country, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam said at the forum in Hanoi on December 16.
The remark was made by Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam at the Vietnam E-Payment Forum in Hanoi on December 16.
The Deputy Prime Minister said that the e-commerce in Vietnam has made a rapid progress in the recent years.
Vietnam has been ready for e-payment in terms of infrastructure and the Government has set goals to stimulate online transactions for years, yet consumers seem not willing to change, he added.
According to Deputy Prime Minister Dam, it is necessary to actively cooperate between government and business to encourage online transactions among domestic consumers.
This does not achieve from technology solutions and discounts, the most important factor is changing the habit of consumers, he said.
Changing cash usage habit to e-payment will not only boost economic growth but also promote Vietnam as a civilized nation, Dam stated.
Deputy Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) Nguyen Toan Thang said the non-cash payment is an important policy which the Government and the State Bank hopes to expand cooperation with ministries and enterprises.
Deputy Governor Thang said the SBV has been working with the Ministry of Finance to design an effective coordination system that helps tax payers make online payments easier.
According to Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh, the promotion of e-payment will help the local retail industry to develop strongly.
Apart from mechanisms and policies, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has been developing a national e-payment gateway to promote online transactions among domestic consumers.
In addition, the master plan for Vietnam e-commerce development in 2016 - 2020 has been building, the deputy minister added.
According to the Vietnam Bank Card Association, by the end of 2014, the country had nearly 170,000 machines to accept payments (POS) installed nationwide, up 1,330% over 2006.
